The Soil of our Self
Led by Kamakshi Duvvuru
Hand in hand with Zora Neale Hurston, we’ll follow ourselves down to the root, to re-language ourselves in the soil of our self. We’ll be guided by the ways she wrote herself true — “The Cosmic Zora” — closer to the root and granular beyond any external gaze; and the ways her character Janie recognizes her innermost desires, felt even before they can be named, in the image of the soil itself — “the dust-bearing bee, the sanctum of a bloom, the ecstatic shiver of a [pear] tree from root.”
Join us for our Third Sunday Service offering as we gather and ask ourselves— What is the soil of our self, the most root and granular language of our inside? Shall we string and adorn ourselves with it, “gleam it around” on the outside?
